COVID 19 Has Altered The Graduation Experience For Our Kids

We support flower shops all over the United States. Traditionally, May and June are busy months for our shop owners, as they prepare for Memorial Day, Fathers Day and Graduations. Flowerama Columbus has been a client of ours for many years. They employ a very talented floral design team who is busy preparing to help Columbus Ohio area graduates celebrate their special day. They are a second generation, family owned and operated floral design firm. Flowerama has been voted “Best Florist” in Columbus Ohio for 10 years in a row. For the past 30 days, all of their 4 retail flower shops have been closed to the public. They have been operating out of their base facility, providing local same day flower delivery for orders taken by phone or online.

Crazy to think that just a month ago, they were operating four floral design center locations.  Those flower shops are located in Columbus, Reynoldsburg, Westerville and Whitehall Ohio. Normally by this time in May, graduates and their parents would be coming in looking for corsages, boutonnieres and graduation themed flowers and plants. In just the past few days, the Governor of Ohio authorized the re-opening of our flower shop locations. Over the past few days, we have seen little more than a trickle of foot traffic coming in. Still, Flowerama has been receiving calls and online orders from people seeking to celebrate graduations.

Graduations are occurring all across the United States. It really tugs at your heart to know that kids who have worked so hard will not be able to march down the aisle in their caps and gowns, to receive their diplomas. So much history, so much tradition. Hard to see these kids prevented from that day filled with celebrations, smiles and that great sense of satisfaction and accomplishment. All of our flower shop clients are working through these challenges with the families who are still wanting to celebrate their graduates.

Some of our other flower shop clients include Steve’s Flowers in Indianapolis Indiana, Allen’s Flowers in San Diego California, Pugh’s Flowers in Memphis Tennessee, Veldkamp’s Flowers in Denver Colorado, Rockcastle Florist in Rochester New York, Mayfield Florist in Tucson Arizona and many more. Some of these flower shops have recently been able to re-open their retail establishments in a controlled manner, others are still not able to open.  In San Diego, Allen’s Flowers is still not able to reopen. The families celebrating graduations are having to order by phone or online. These families are supposed to continue social distancing, which is preventing large family gatherings to celebrate their deserving graduates.
